On the one hand Kumily is renowned for its scenic beauty as Lake Thekkady is also a tourist spot. On the other side there are also a number of vagrants who are afflicted with with various diseases such as AIDS and mentally unsound ones. In the case of establishment of Snehashram at Kumily I went around with some of my friends to find out a rented house that suits to start a centre at Kumily. In the beginning we had a lot of inconveniences. Usually many of our ministries among the poor people are a show of self sufficiency and people are kept away. We depended totally on the generosity and good will of the people. It was another extension of Snehasram. This Snehashram in kumily was inaugurated on 28th May, 2000. We received support and help from the people who were ready to contribute everything for the smooth running of the centre. Sr. Anita, who was there right from the beginning, was my right hand in the project at Kumily. Sr. Anita with the orphan children was looking for a permanent place of our own in the town of Kumily. Thus she met with Fr. Thomas Asaripparambil who later donated 5 acres of his land for the construction at Kumily. Today about 110 persons in Phase 1 for men and  equal number of women in Phase 2 are sheltered and looked after here.
